Scottish comedian Janey Godley says her daughter is her ‘biggest success’

Scottish comedian Janey Godley has expressed that her daughter is her greatest achievement. The Glasgow-based comic, known for her sharp wit and viral voiceovers during lockdown, shared the news that she is now under palliative care and will be entering a hospice as her cancer treatment options have been exhausted and the cancer has spread. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, Janey has received an outpouring of love and support from fans, friends, and even political figures like Nicola Sturgeon.

Despite having to cancel her ‘Why Is She Still Here?’ tour after the cancer spread, Janey remains grateful for the role comedy has played in helping her cope with the diagnosis. She acknowledged the invaluable care provided by the NHS and everyone involved in her treatment, from the nurses to the cleaners. In a poignant interview with The Times, Janey revealed that breaking the news to her daughter Ashley Storrie was the most challenging part of her journey, equating it to “throwing a hand grenade.”

Coming to terms with the limited treatment options available, Janey reflected on her prognosis, acknowledging the difficult reality that she may be nearing the end of her battle. Despite the challenges ahead, Janey expressed immense pride in her daughter, also a comedian and actress known for her successful BBC sitcom ‘Dinosaur’. Janey shared her sadness over the things she will miss, especially not being able to see her daughter. She proudly declared that Ashley is her “biggest success”.

In a heartwarming moment, Janey was recently seen celebrating with Ashley on a video call as her daughter announced her comedy-drama, exploring life with autism, had received a record number of nominations at the upcoming BAFTA Scotland awards. Their close relationship was evident as Ashley playfully teased her mother on social media, adding a touch of humour to their bond.
