Sandi Toksvig gives blunt response when asked if she remained friends with Bake Off co-star

Sandi Toksvig, former presenter of the Great British Bake Off, has candidly shared that she is not in touch with her co-host Noel Fielding following her departure from the show in 2020. Although she received a substantial paycheck during her three-year tenure on the programme, the 66-year-old revealed in a recent interview with The Times that she did not have a positive experience and does not maintain communication with her former colleagues.

In the interview, Toksvig expressed her lack of enjoyment for being on Bake Off, describing it as “three of the longest years of my life.” She admitted to not grasping the purpose of the show and confessed to never watching it prior to joining. Despite acknowledging a close bond with judge Prue Leith, Toksvig made it clear that she did not understand the appeal of the baking competition, stating, “It’s not for me. I walked away from the biggest paycheque of my life, but that’s fine. I’d never watched it. I still haven’t watched it. I didn’t understand it.”

Moreover, she detailed her dissatisfaction with the filming process, highlighting the tedious hours spent standing while the judges sampled the bakes. Toksvig lamented the lack of interaction during filming and expressed her disinterest in trying the baked goods afterward, revealing, “Not really. My thing is cheese.” Her bold remarks have garnered mixed reactions from viewers and industry peers.

Pointless presenter and author Richard Osman critiqued Toksvig’s stance, suggesting that hosts should align with shows they enjoy watching. This commentary sparked further discussions online, with some fans questioning Toksvig’s decision to host a show she reportedly disliked. However, supporters defended her, noting that her authenticity and perspective as a seasoned entertainer should be respected.

As the revelations from Toksvig’s interview continue to circulate, fans of the baking competition show may find themselves reevaluating their perception of the former presenter. Whether her departure impacts the dynamic of the programme or prompts reflections on the entertainment industry remains to be seen.
