Babysitter Arrested After 1-Year-Old Is Mauled by Dogs and Saved by ‘Hero’ Teen
A shocking incident in Texas has led to the arrest of a babysitter after a one-year-old boy was severely injured in a vicious dog attack. Heather Rodriguez, 36, faces charges of injury to a child with serious bodily harm for leaving the child and a 13-year-old in a dangerous situation with four aggressive dogs. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting approval for additional charges from the District Attorney.
The distressing event unfolded when Rodriguez abandoned the baby and teenager in a room with the dogs, which were known to be dangerous. The dogs managed to break through a bedroom door that had already been damaged by their previous attempts. One of the dogs then started biting the baby, prompting the teen to intervene and try to save the infant by engaging in a desperate struggle with the animals.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found both the baby and teen covered in blood. The baby, who suffered severe head injuries and damage to the throat and airway, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The child’s biological parents, who were unaware of the dogs’ history, are by his side at the hospital. The heroic actions of the teenager, who put herself at risk to protect the baby, were commended by law enforcement officials. Despite sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, the teen is expected to undergo psychological trauma due to the incident.
Authorities have highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership, noting that Rodriguez’s dogs had previously been reported for roaming unrestrained. Child Protective Services are now overseeing the welfare of the two children, while animal control will determine the fate of the aggressive dogs.
Sheriff Javier Salazar expressed admiration for the teen’s bravery, acknowledging that her quick thinking prevented a potentially fatal outcome. He emphasised the severity of the situation, condemning Rodriguez’s neglectful actions that endangered the lives of two innocent children.
