On Wednesday morning, there were 81 alerts across England, with 20 locations, including eight in Greater Manchester, expected to face flooding.
The Met Office forecasted a band of heavy rain moving slowly south through Wednesday, leading to dangerous driving conditions with over 40mm of rain in some areas. A yellow rain warning was in effect until 3pm on Wednesday in the north east and Yorkshire, with potential power outages expected. National Highways announced the closure of the A1(M) in County Durham in both directions due to flooding.
After a weather warning for thunderstorms in southern England ended, showery rain was predicted to move into eastern parts of England, while sunny spells would develop in the south. Additional warnings were issued for various areas in Warwick, Worcestershire, and Somerset, urging residents to be cautious of possible flooding.
Northumberland experienced severe flooding, with roads closed in the Blyth area. MP Ian Lavery and councillor Scott Dickinson highlighted the drastic flooding situation, which required the combined efforts of multiple agencies to address. Furthermore, the M5 in Somerset faced temporary closure southbound on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall.
