Three people have tragically lost their lives after a medical helicopter crashed while en route to pick up a patient in Kentucky. The incident occurred when the Bell 206 aircraft struck a guy wire in Owenton near state Highway 22, causing it to crash and catch fire on Monday evening, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration and Air Evac Lifeteam.
The individuals on board the helicopter, identified by Kentucky State Police as Air Evac Lifeteam members Bethany Aicken, Gale Alleman, and James Welsh, all perished in the crash. The FAA noted that the accident resulted in “substantial” damage to the scene.
Chuck Dietz, assistant fire chief of Crescent Springs/Villa Hills Fire Department, expressed profound shock at the news, revealing that he had recently participated in a training session with Alleman, a seasoned pilot, and Welsh.
