Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has listed his six-bedroom, mid-century London home for sale with a hefty price tag of nearly £5 million. The sprawling property located in south east London was originally purchased by Edwards and his wife Vicky Flind for £1.85 million back in 2006.
Despite facing legal troubles, including admitting to three charges of possessing indecent photographs, Edwards managed to avoid jail time. Instead, he received a suspended six-month sentence for two years, along with a seven-year registration on the sex offenders’ list. The BBC star continued to draw his £480,000 annual salary for five months post his arrest, and now the broadcaster is seeking a partial reimbursement of the wage.
The luxurious London suburb property boasts six double bedrooms, three bathrooms, off-street parking for multiple vehicles, and access to a double-length garage. The listing highlights additional features such as a grand piano, pool table, and a sizeable 5175 square foot garden described as “most delightful” and “mature”.
In court proceedings, it was revealed that Edwards had encouraged the distribution of indecent images by convicted paedophile Alex Williams. The photographs in question depicted individuals ranging from ages 7 to 15. District Judge Paul Goldspring condemned Edwards for the reputational and financial damage he caused to himself through his actions.
The Crown Prosecution Service outlined that the term “making” indecent images encompasses various actions, including accessing explicit content online. Despite the legal turmoil, Edwards had an illustrious career spanning four decades at the BBC, where he played a pivotal role in broadcasting major events such as the late Queen’s funeral in 2022 and the coronation of the King in May 2023. He even announced the late Queen’s passing on the BBC in September 2022.
The BBC expressed its disappointment in Edwards’ actions, stating that he had “betrayed not just the BBC, but audiences who put their trust in him”. As the sale of his impressive London residence unfolds, it marks a new chapter in Huw Edwards’ life as he navigates the aftermath of recent events.
