Bonhill mental health charity teams up with Dumbarton Football Club

Bonhill mental health charity, Mentor Scotland, has partnered with Dumbarton Football Club ahead of World Mental Health Day. The charity, founded by Bonhill resident Jamie Maclean, aims to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health. Players from Dumbarton FC wore warm-up tops featuring the charity’s branding before their game with Stenhousemuir on Saturday, in addition to collaborating with Dumbarton-based Lomond Radio.

Mentor Scotland, located at Dumbarton’s Benview Resource Centre, boasts nearly 2,500 social media followers. Jamie expressed optimism that the affiliation with the football club will elevate their visibility. He emphasised the importance of increasing awareness about mental health and promoting open discussions to combat stigma, stating, “The more people who see others being open talking about their mental health, ultimately that will end the stigma.”

Volunteers staff Mentor Scotland, with Jamie commending their dedication and the progress made in the past two years. Despite personal challenges, including an ADHD diagnosis, Jamie highlighted the group’s unwavering commitment to supporting each other. He encouraged those grappling with mental health issues to seek assistance, underscoring the charity’s compassionate and tailored approach.
