The proposed development on open grassland to the north of King Seat Place and Glendevon Drive has faced significant opposition. Falkirk Council recently held a pre-determination hearing to allow its planning committee members to gather more information about the project. The developer, Manor Forrest, outlined that the application is likely to involve around 200 new houses, with 25% designated as affordable housing.
During the hearing, concerns were raised about the impact of the development on the local area. Objectors highlighted worries about increased traffic congestion on Glendevon Road, loss of wildlife, and the potential removal of mature oak trees from the site. Some residents expressed fears that the proposed housing project would diminish the rural character of the village and strain local services, such as access to healthcare. Despite the objections, the developer emphasized the need for additional housing in Falkirk to meet government targets.
The meeting also addressed the absence of updated information in the application, such as an 11-year-old transport assessment. The developer clarified that the focus should be on the principle of development rather than specific details like access and design. Council members requested further details on transport infrastructure and road capacity before reaching any decisions on the application. Additionally, concerns were raised about the financial implications of requesting multiple reports for the project.
The proposed development in Maddiston is not currently included in the council’s local development plan, as authorities have expressed reservations about the rapid expansion of the village. However, the developer argued that the site is suitable for development due to its proximity to essential amenities like schools, shops, and community facilities. The planning process for the new housing development is ongoing, with a decision not expected until early next year.
