Fernhill Soccer School taking a break before Halloween return

Fernhill Soccer School sessions are temporarily suspended for two consecutive Sundays. The soccer school, established 13 years ago and open to all for free, will be on a break on October 13 and 20. However, it will resume at the end of the month with a Halloween party. Each week, the football camp accommodates approximately 100 local youngsters, offering valuable support to families who might otherwise struggle with the expenses of sending their children to play football.

Founded by Chairman Davy O’Neil, the soccer school aims to provide a positive activity for young people, including his own grandson, as a means to keep them away from the streets. O’Neil expressed gratitude towards Burnside community champion for her assistance and generous donation. The organisation relies on donations and volunteers to sustain its operations. Earlier this year, Fernhill Soccer School was fortunate to secure funding amounting to £16,000 from three separate sources, securing its activities for the next few years.

O’Neil announced, “Fernhill Soccer School is off for the next two Sundays, but we are back for our Halloween party on October 27, from 6pm to 7.30pm. All Fernhill Soccer School children are welcome to attend, and we hope to see them all dressed up for the occasion.” The dedication of the volunteers and the generosity of the community have played a significant role in the success of the soccer school, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for local children to engage in physical activity and teamwork.

The impact of Fernhill Soccer School extends beyond just football training, fostering a sense of community spirit and camaraderie among the participants. The upcoming Halloween party promises to be a fun-filled event for the children, allowing them to celebrate together and showcase their creative costumes. As the school takes a brief hiatus, the anticipation for its return grows among both the young players and the supportive local community.
