Grey’s Anatomy Star Claims Unfair Dismissal from Show
Sarah Drew, a former star of the popular television series Grey’s Anatomy, has spoken out about feeling unfairly treated after being fired from the show. Drew, who portrayed Dr April Kepner on the medical drama, revealed that she was let go in a manner she perceived as mean and unjust.
The actress first joined Grey’s Anatomy in season five and, similar to her co-star Eric Dane’s sudden departure from the show, Drew found out that her contract would not be extended for season 15. In a recent interview on the Call It What It Is podcast, Drew expressed her dismay over the way she was dismissed, stating that the outpouring of love and support she received from fans was overwhelming.
Addressing her fans directly following the news of her exit, Drew took to social media to share her feelings. She acknowledged the sadness surrounding her departure and explained that she needed time to process the information before making a formal statement about her nine-year tenure on the show.
Despite her abrupt exit, Drew made a brief return to Grey’s Anatomy three seasons later. During the podcast interview, she explained that she felt no attachment to the series and had no anxiety about returning to set. She emphasised that the show was no longer responsible for her livelihood, success, or happiness, and that her return was simply a lighthearted visit.
In a surprising revelation, Drew disclosed that her character was originally intended to have a one-night stand with Eric Dane’s character, Dr Mark Sloan. She shared that this storyline was eventually changed, as her character was rewritten as a devout Christian and virgin.
Eric Dane, who played McSteamy on the show, also previously acknowledged his departure from Grey’s Anatomy, stating that he was “probably fired” rather than choosing to leave the series. The show, currently in its 21st season, continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storylines and talented cast members.
