A motorist was caught driving at a shocking speed of 134mph on a notorious speeding hotspot in Scotland. Recent data has revealed that the M80, near the Barnego Road Overbridge in Dunipace, recorded the top five fastest speeds caught by Police Scotland cameras in the past year.
The information, obtained through a Freedom of Information request by the Stirling Observer, disclosed that the fastest speed recorded by a police speed camera in the region was 134mph. The top five speeds captured were 134mph, 114mph, 110mph, 105mph, and 103mph, all observed at the same location on the M80 motorway near the Barnego Road Overbridge in Dunipace.
These speeds were all monitored by the East Safety Camera Unit on a stretch of the motorway where the speed limit is 70mph. This location has consistently seen high-speed violations, as data from previous years also showed the top speeds being recorded there.
In response to previous instances of excessive speeding on this route, Inspector Andrew Thomson of the Forth Valley Road Policing Unit emphasised the significant risk posed by driving at such high speeds. He highlighted the danger it poses to not only the driver but also to other road users.
