A man from Renfrewshire has managed to escape jail time after confessing to sending sexually explicit messages to a schoolgirl. Kevin Cross, aged 61, admitted to sending inappropriate messages to a 14-year-old girl over a two-day period in February of the previous year. The pervert solicited details from the young girl regarding her intimate experiences, asked for photos, and made lewd enquiries. When confronted by the police, Cross casually remarked, “I take it you’re here about the messages to the wee lassie?”
Prosecutor Michael Cunningham disclosed in Paisley Sheriff Court that the girl had received a message from the accused on Facebook messenger on December 21, 2022, and their correspondence intensified over the following days with increasingly graphic content. Alarming messages compelled the girl to seek assistance from the authorities and her parents. Upon being questioned at his residence, Cross showed no remorse and was subsequently arrested.
Defence solicitor Charlie McCusker acknowledged the severity of the situation and admitted that Cross recognised the inappropriateness of his actions towards the minor. Despite meeting the criteria for imprisonment, Cross was given a community sentence consisting of 180 hours of unpaid work and two years of supervision by the social work department. Additionally, he was mandated to join the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
