A garage in Rutherglen is making a positive environmental impact by adopting smart packaging for the motor oil it uses. D&G Autocare, a long-standing independent garage group with 18 locations offering MOTs and servicing, recently made the switch to ExxonMobil’s oil-in-a-box system. This new packaging solution, known as Mobil Boxx, reduces plastic waste, requires less storage space, and provides a cleaner and more convenient alternative to traditional oil packaging.
The Mobil Boxx containers used by D&G Autocare contain 85% less plastic than a standard 20-litre pail, making them not only eco-friendly but also easier to handle compared to the usual 208-litre drums. The sealed packaging eliminates the need for additional pumping systems, reducing the risk of oil contamination and leaks. This move also helps in minimising the use of harsh cleaning chemicals on garage forecourts.
Operations Director at D&G Autocare, Pete Wood, praised the Mobil Boxx product as a high-quality solution for their customers’ vehicles. The garage group has a history of environmental responsibility, having implemented waste segregation practices before it became a legal requirement. This commitment extends to recycling used oil and end-of-life tyres, as well as repurposing old metal components into new products.
Feedback from mechanics using Mobil Boxx has been positive, with the product’s ease of use and environmental benefits being highlighted. Elaine Friel from Moove Lubricants commended D&G Autocare for prioritising environmental initiatives without compromising on service quality. This shift towards sustainable practices underscores the garage’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and providing top-notch service to its customers.
D&G Autocare’s adoption of smart packaging for motor oil reflects a broader trend towards eco-friendly solutions in the automotive industry. By embracing innovations like the Mobil Boxx system, businesses can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability while maintaining operational excellence.
In summary, D&G Autocare in Rutherglen has taken a significant step towards reducing plastic waste and promoting environmental sustainability in the automotive sector through the adoption of smart packaging for motor oil. This move not only benefits the garage operationally but also underscores the importance of eco-friendly practices in the industry.
