BRELAND’s journey to self-discovery led him to Selma, Alabama, where his experiences and emotions inspired his latest music project, “Project 2024.” After a whirlwind few years that included the release of his debut album, “Cross Country,” and collaborations with country music’s biggest names, BRELAND felt the need to pause, reflect, and explore new creative directions.
Visiting Selma, a town with personal significance as the former home of his great grandmother and great-great grandmother, proved to be a transformative experience. Witnessing the challenges faced by the community, from the aftermath of a recent tornado to the lack of essential services like healthcare, BRELAND was struck by the resilience and struggles of the people there. This experience motivated him to create work that shed light on Selma’s stories and realities.
One of the standout tracks from “Project 2024” is his collaboration with The War & Treaty on “Same Work,” a poignant song inspired by a chance encounter with a fan. The fan, a veteran turned nurse providing free healthcare to fellow veterans, highlighted the profound impact individuals can have through their actions, regardless of their chosen path. This narrative of compassion and shared purpose serves as the emotional core of the EP.
Addressing the provocative title of his project, “Project 2024,” BRELAND clarifies that it is not a political statement but rather a reflection of his creative intentions for the year. Emphasizing the importance of not reading political undertones into the music, BRELAND aims to maintain accessibility and human connection through his genre-blending approach, incorporating elements of Afrobeats and Southern gospel into his country sound.
