The Independent’s Brick by Brick campaign has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing £350,000 in donations as individuals continue to show their support for the cause. Igor Tulchinsky, the founder and CEO of asset management firm WorldQuant, is among the latest contributors to the campaign, emphasising the urgent need to provide safe homes for domestic abuse survivors.
The campaign, launched in collaboration with the charity Refuge, aims to build secure accommodation for families escaping the trauma of domestic violence. After exceeding the initial fundraising target of £300,000 to construct one safe home, plans are now underway to build a second residence. These safe houses, constructed by the firm Persimmon, will offer women the opportunity to seek refuge with their children and pets.
Numerous prominent figures have endorsed the initiative, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Queen Elizabeth II, Dame Joanna Lumley, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Patrick Stewart, Rylan Clark, Rosie Jones, and Andi Oliver. Tulchinsky, who hails from Belarus and migrated to the US with his parents at a young age, reflected on his decision to donate, stressing the critical importance of the cause supported by Refuge.
Expressing his pride in supporting The Independent’s Brick by Brick campaign, Tulchinsky highlighted the significance of offering survivors a sanctuary where they can rebuild their lives and chart a new course for the future. He underscored the project’s impact in overcoming barriers and empowering individuals to achieve their aspirations, particularly in light of the challenges faced by women and the pressing need for support in such situations.
The campaign urges further donations to help reach the target of £300,000, facilitating the creation of a secure space where women can escape domestic abuse, rebuild their lives, and envision a brighter future.
