A corrupt detective was captured on CCTV dropping a bag of cocaine outside his daughter’s primary school, leading to his exposure and subsequent imprisonment. Andrew Talbot, a 54-year-old father-of-two from Leigh, was sentenced to 19 years in jail after being found guilty of supplying class A drugs and misconduct in public office. The shocking incident was caught on camera as Talbot, a former army officer, unknowingly dropped the bag of cocaine just after dropping off his daughter at school.
The video footage shows Talbot fiddling in his back pocket, which resulted in a white item falling to the ground. Unaware of the drug’s release, he proceeded with his work as a respected detective constable in the serious crime division. However, staff at the school found the bag of cocaine later, sparking an investigation by the Greater Manchester Police’s counter-corruption unit.
Further scrutiny uncovered Talbot’s involvement in various crimes, including stealing cocaine from the police’s property store, supplying it between 2018 and 2020, and providing confidential information to a convicted drug dealer. Despite being sacked by the police, Talbot initially pleaded guilty to several charges before a trial found him guilty of drug supply, misconduct, and obstruction of an investigation.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing Talbot’s active role in drug distribution, invalidating his claims of innocence. His attempt to hinder the investigation by withholding his phone’s passcode was also exposed. Additionally, searches on police systems for drug dealers were discovered, indicating his unlawful activities.
