Champion jockey Oisin Murphy has made a shocking revelation about his battle with alcoholism, admitting that he drank more in eight years than most men do in a lifetime. The 29-year-old jockey, who is on the cusp of being crowned the leading flat jockey for the fourth time in six years at the star-studded Champions Day at Ascot, finally achieved sobriety in October 2021.
Murphy, born premature at just 2lb 14oz, opened up about his struggles with alcoholism throughout his first three title wins. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from fans who related to his story of sobriety. Despite his past struggles, Murphy has continued to excel in his career, currently leading by over 50 wins compared to his closest competitor.
