Daniil Medvedev reveals joke that made Carlos Alcaraz laugh after China Open defeat

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev shared a light-hearted moment with his opponent Carlos Alcaraz after their match at the China Open. Alcaraz had just secured a 7-5 6-3 victory over Medvedev, earning a spot in the final of the tournament in Beijing. Medvedev joked with Alcaraz, suggesting that he should try dressing up like Botic van de Zandschulp, who had caused an upset by defeating Alcaraz at the US Open last month.

The 21-year-old Spaniard Alcaraz has been in excellent form recently, winning his last eight matches since the US Open. Despite his loss to Medvedev in the semi-finals of the US Open last year, Alcaraz has now won four consecutive matches against the Russian player. Following his defeat to Alcaraz in the China Open, Medvedev made a playful comment to the Spaniard that made him laugh and shake his head.

In a post-match press conference, Medvedev revealed, “I told Carlos next match I’m going to paint my hair blond and put ‘Botic’ here [drawing a line across his chest]. Maybe this can help. As I say, today I played pretty well. I don’t see how I could beat him today, on a given day today. Next match I need to try something. Maybe throw him off a little bit. But it’s a joke, of course.”

Alcaraz, enjoying a winning streak, will face either World No 1 Jannik Sinner or home favourite Bu Yunchaokete in the final of the China Open. The young Spaniard’s impressive performance has garnered attention as he continues to excel on the court, showcasing his talent and determination in the world of tennis.
