Family’s Range Rover ‘written off’ after being booked in to airport meet and greet

A family’s Range Rover was left completely damaged and deemed a write-off after being entrusted to an airport Meet and Greet service at Manchester Airport. Ioan Williams, accompanied by his children Ela and Sion, departed for Alicante on August 9, leaving his white Range Rover under the care of the airport service. Initially, Ioan believed his car was in pristine condition without a scratch. However, upon returning a week later on August 16, he was shocked to discover significant damage had occurred.

Assessing the situation, Ioan found the driver’s side wheel was positioned abnormally, indicating a severe incident. The repairs were quoted at £15,800, rendering the car irreparable. While discussions are ongoing between the airport and Ioan’s insurers, he expressed disappointment at the lack of an apology or compensation offer. Ioan, hailing from North Wales, recounted the events stating, “The car was obviously not drivable as something had snapped. They paid for a taxi home for us and I had to leave the car there.” Despite being reimbursed by the insurance company, Ioan expressed sentimental attachment to the vehicle, purchased for his 40th birthday.

Manchester Airport refunded the parking fee, but Ioan highlighted the absence of any form of redress from the airport. Expressing his frustration, he declared his reluctance to utilize the Meet and Greet service in the future. Manchester Airport is engaging with Ioan and his insurers to resolve the matter, emphasising the standard practice of issuing an apology post-resolution in such cases. The incident serves as a cautionary tale for travellers entrusting their vehicles to airport services.

The upheaval faced by Ioan and his family underscores the importance of thorough assessment and vigilance when using third-party airport services. Customers are urged to exercise caution and inquire about insurance coverage and protocols for handling such unfortunate incidents. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for both travellers and service providers to uphold transparency and accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
