Kellyanne Conway, the longtime Republican strategist known for her role in Donald Trump’s successful 2016 presidential campaign, is pushing for another debate between Trump and Kamala Harris to prevent JD Vance from having the “last word.” Although Trump has appeared to dismiss the idea of a second debate following their initial showdown last month, Conway remains hopeful, stating that Trump’s response wasn’t a definitive no.
During an interview on Fox News, Conway publicly called for Trump to accept another debate, emphasising that Trump is not likely to let the first debate be the final discussion. She encouraged Trump to consider scheduling a follow-up debate, despite his initial reservations.
The potential for a second debate arises as Ohio Senator JD Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are preparing for their first vice presidential debate, which could have a significant impact on the overall presidential ticket. Conway believes that Trump may find it challenging to allow Vance to have the final say.
In response to questions about the possibility of a rematch with Harris, Conway hinted that while Trump had initially indicated no interest, he had not completely ruled out the idea. She pointed out that the previously proposed October 23rd date was considered too late, suggesting that Trump should consider re-entering the debate arena.
Despite Trump’s claims of winning the first debate against Harris, a CNN flash poll showed that 63 percent of registered voters viewed Harris as the winner. Trump’s former advisor acknowledged that Harris currently holds a record of “one for one” in debates with Trump.
