Motorists travelling on the M8 are advised to prepare for significant delays as major weekend bridge works are scheduled to take place this month. The Longacre Bridge, which spans Craigens Road between Junctions 5 and 6, will undergo refurbishment and re-waterproofing by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland. To facilitate the works, the M8 will operate with only one lane open in each direction over three consecutive weekends.
During the weekends of October 11 to 14, October 18 to 21, and October 25 to 28, the M8 will operate with a contraflow system between Junctions 5 and 6 from 8:30 pm on Friday to 6 am on Monday. Additionally, the eastbound on-slip at Junction 6 Newhouse will be closed during these periods. Traffic will be redirected to follow alternative routes to access the motorway at Junction 5 Shotts Interchange.
