Edinburgh Zoo has recently delighted animal lovers by sharing adorable photos of an endangered red panda cub. The female red panda, born earlier this summer on July 17 at the Scottish zoo, is now nine weeks old and has just had her first health check. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) confirmed that the young panda is healthy and will soon be given a name.
The red panda cub joins three other red pandas at Edinburgh Zoo named Bruce, Ginger, and Kevyn. Bruce and Ginger were born in 2015 and arrived at the zoo in 2016 and 2017, respectively, while Kevyn joined from Highland Wildlife Park in 2022. Red pandas are a species in danger of extinction and are known for their climbing abilities, often found in trees at the zoo.
In other news from the zoo, the sad announcement was made of the passing of their cheetah, Clio, earlier this week. The five-year-old cheetah is said to have died from liver failure. More information on red pandas and zoo bookings can be found on their official website. Visitors will soon have the opportunity to see the adorable red panda cub in person.
The Edinburgh Zoo team also revealed that the unnamed red panda kit received her first health check from the RZSS veterinary team. The cute cub will surely capture the hearts of those who visit the zoo soon. Stay tuned for updates on this endearing new addition to the zoo’s family.
