The incident occurred on the 4th of February this year when the victim noticed something unusual at her letterbox. As she peered through, she described seeing an object resembling a “hand without fingers” being quickly pulled back. Alarmed, she heard the man mumble “I’m sorry” as he retreated. Following her mother’s advice to alert the police if Scott returned, she kept an eye on the situation. On another occasion, she captured footage of him, with his trousers lowered and inappropriate exposure, and contacted authorities immediately.
Fiscal Depute Charmaine Gilmartin recounted the details during a court hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court, revealing that Scott engaged in similar conduct in front of a different woman just weeks later, on the 16th of May. This second victim noticed Scott lingering outside her flat, and, upon checking the peephole, recognised him as he stood emotionless and unbuttoned. Feeling unsafe, she immediately reported the situation to the police.
Officers were dispatched and found Scott smoking a cigarette outside the property, where he was promptly arrested. The emotional impact on the victims was significant, with one stating she felt “shaken and distressed” after the incidents.
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown has deferred sentencing for further assessment, deeming the nature of Scott’s actions grave enough to warrant a custodial sentence. His name has also been added to the sex offenders register, underlining the seriousness of his conduct.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and support. Many residents now feel uneasy, questioning their safety in what should be a comfortable and secure environment. The legal proceedings continue, highlighting the need for swift justice against such disturbing behaviour. Community members are urged to remain alert and report inappropriate behaviour to authorities.
