Tesla has announced its fifth recall for the new Cybertruck in less than a year, this time due to issues with the rearview camera. The company is recalling over 27,000 Cybertrucks because the rearview camera image may not activate immediately after shifting into reverse. This marks the fifth recall for the vehicle since it was launched late last year.
Tesla has taken steps to address the problem by releasing a free software upgrade. Owner notification letters are set to be sent out on November 25. Since its release in November, Cybertruck owners have faced a series of recalls. In June, a recall was issued to fix problems with loose trim pieces and front windshield wipers that could fail. A couple of months prior to that, some Cybertrucks were recalled due to potential issues with the accelerator pedal.
In the latest recall, Tesla notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the display screens in affected trucks may stay blank for up to 8 seconds after a driver shifts into reverse. US regulations require these screens to activate with a rearview within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse. Elon Musk’s Tesla delivered the first batch of its futuristic Cybertruck pickups to customers in November, which was two years behind the original schedule.
