Nottingham Forest Owner Faces Misconduct Charge Following Incident with Fulham
The owner of Nottingham Forest, Evangelos Marinakis, has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA). The charge stems from an alleged incident involving improper behaviour by the Greek shipping magnate in the tunnel area following his team’s match against Fulham on September 28.
According to reports, Marinakis had until Monday to respond to the charge. Nottingham Forest suffered a 1-0 defeat to Fulham, with Fulham’s goal by Raul Jimenez being awarded following a VAR check. This loss marked the end of an unbeaten start to the Premier League season for the club.
Last week, Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo was also charged with improper conduct after his reaction to a red card shown to midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White during a match against Brighton on September 22. This is not Nuno’s first brush with disciplinary action, as he already has a suspended one-match ban for criticising officials after a previous defeat to Everton in April.
Nottingham Forest itself faced charges following a post on their official account questioning the integrity of the VAR assigned to their match against Brighton. The outcome of those proceedings is yet to be determined.
In the aftermath of the loss to Fulham, Nuno expressed his frustration with the officiating in the match, stating, “We all want peace and for things to continue well, to not have to speak about the referees. But it was bad, wasn’t it? We don’t want to talk about it [referee decisions]. Nobody wants to talk about it.”
The FA has not disclosed any further details regarding the specific nature of Marinakis’ alleged misconduct. The football community will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of these charges, as both Marinakis and Nottingham Forest face potential repercussions for their actions.
