A disqualified motorist was apprehended by police while driving home from court after being handed a 28-month driving ban and fines for drink driving. Steven Luck, aged 39 from Darlington, had just left Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday when he was spotted getting into his car to make his way back home. Despite his recent disqualification, Luck decided to drive, claiming to officers who followed him that he was unaware the ban was immediately effective.
Luck’s excuse did not hold water, and within 30 minutes of leaving the court premises, he found himself back in police custody. As a consequence of his actions, Luck was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and received an additional 12-month driving ban.
