Dumfries and Galloway News: Dumfries and District Ramblers Enjoy Walks in the Pentland Hills and the Lake District
Last weekend, a small group of Dumfries and District Ramblers embarked on a trip to West Linton to explore the Pentland Hills. The weather proved to be typically Scottish, with a mix of four seasons in one day, offering fantastic views of autumn colours transforming the landscape. Isabel led the walk, and the group revelled in the beauty of nature despite the ever-changing Scottish weather.
Additionally, a group of Ramblers assisted Phil in conducting a reconnaissance walk for an upcoming programme. All walks are thoroughly assessed either before they are scheduled or before the actual walk day. The group was fortunate to have fabulous weather during the recce in Borrowdale. The hope is that the weather will be just as favourable when the walk is scheduled for January.
Upcoming walks include an adventure walk to Crag Hill in the Lake District on Sunday, October 13, led by Phil. The walk is described as an A walk covering eight miles and 2,650 feet of ascent, taking participants from Braithwaite village to Force Mine, Crag Hill, and Coledale Hause. The route includes good paths and some steep sections, with a meeting point at Brooms Road car park in Dumfries at 8 am for car sharing.
Another walk is set for Thursday, October 17, a day walk for the Tynron Doon Circular led by Isabel. This walk is described as a C+ walk covering 6.5 miles and 1,227 feet of ascent, starting from Tynron car park to Auchengibbert Hill and Tynron Doon, returning via Airds Loch. The terrain consists of roads, tracks, and open hillside, with a meeting point at Brooms Road car park in Dumfries at 9 am for car sharing.
