Bollywood star Govinda rushed to hospital after accidental shooting incident

Popular Indian actor Govinda was rushed to a hospital in Mumbai after suffering an accidental gunshot injury to his leg. The incident occurred early in the morning at the actor’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai, while he was handling his licensed revolver. Govinda, who was getting ready to travel to Kolkata, West Bengal, had the gun slip from his hand and misfire, causing the injury to his leg.

Following the mishap, Govinda was promptly taken to Criti Care Hospital for treatment. His manager, Shashi Sinha, clarified to local media that the bullet had been successfully removed from Govinda’s leg, and he was currently in recovery. Sinha explained that the accident happened as Govinda was placing his revolver in its case, leading to the firearm slipping and discharging a bullet.

Although no formal complaint has been lodged with the police, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde reached out to Govinda to convey his well wishes for a speedy recovery. Shinde assured the actor of full support from the government and people of the state during his rehabilitation. Mumbai police have initiated an investigation into the incident and have confiscated Govinda’s firearm for further examination.

In a statement, Govinda expressed gratitude for the support and medical care he has received following the accident. His daughter, Tina Ahuja, provided an update on his condition, stating that Govinda had undergone successful surgery and was currently in the ICU for observation. She reassured well-wishers that doctors were closely monitoring his progress and that there was no cause for alarm.

Known for his unique dance style and comedic performances, Govinda has been a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, appearing in over 165 Hindi-language films. In recognition of his contributions to cinema, Govinda was ranked tenth in a BBC News Online poll in 1999 to find the “greatest star of stage or screen”. Additionally, he ventured into politics in 2004, briefly joining the Congress party before aligning with the Shiv Sena party earlier this year.

As Govinda continues his recovery, fans and colleagues alike are sending their thoughts and prayers for his swift return to health.
