An Idaho man has been sentenced to life in prison for the killing of a homeless man after taking him to IHOP for breakfast. Dallas Brower, 27, approached Justin Friesner and his friend Cameron Russell at a bus stop in Boise offering help. The two homeless men, who were cold and hungry, accepted Brower’s gesture, not knowing it would end in tragedy.
Hours after the breakfast outing, Friesner was found dead near the Boise Airport. Brower had offered the men marijuana laced with fentanyl, causing them to fall asleep. When Russell woke up, he saw his best friend being stabbed by Brower. Friesner sustained 16 stab wounds, leading to his untimely death as confirmed by the Ada County coroner’s report.
Russell, the sole survivor of the attack, described the traumatic incident in court, recalling the chilling details of Brower’s actions. Despite Brower’s defence claiming he had experienced hallucinations and increased violence due to drug use over the years, the prosecution painted a picture of a premeditated and remorseless act.
In his sentencing, Judge Derrick O’Neill handed Brower a life sentence, with 25 years fixed, after emotional statements from the victims’ families. Deslie Friesner, the victim’s sister, expressed her grief in court, highlighting Justin’s brave fight until the end. Addressing Brower, she declared him a weak and remorseless individual, contrasting him with her late brother’s courageous spirit.
Before being incarcerated, Brower apologised to the victims’ families in court, expressing his willingness to accept the consequences of his actions. However, the judge expressed doubt about Brower’s sincerity, questioning the depth of his remorse and the emptiness of his soul for committing such a heinous crime.
