Local heroes from the Stirling area had the honour of joining Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) at Holyrood to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament alongside HM The King and Queen Camilla. The event was a special celebration recognising the significant milestone of the opening of the Scottish Parliament. Fallin community stalwart Michelle Robertson, nominated by Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed, attended the event along with her mum Christine. Michelle, a trustee of Fallin Community Voice, was acknowledged for her dedicated work in enhancing the lives of individuals in her village.
In a similar vein, Sid Pask from Dunblane, invited by Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown, was recognised for his contributions to the Wee County Harriers, where he has served as a coach and played a pivotal role in training athletes. Additionally, bus campaigner Val Brand, nominated by Green MSP Mark Ruskell, was commended for her longstanding efforts in advocating for improved bus services in the Stirling area.
Earlier this year, all 129 MSPs were given the opportunity to nominate a constituent who positively impacts the community as their ‘local hero’. The selected individuals were invited to a special ceremonial event at the Scottish Parliament in the presence of the King and Queen. The ceremony featured performances by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Sistema Scotland, Còisir Alba, and Calum McIlroy, which showcased Scotland’s rich musical heritage.
Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed expressed her delight at meeting Michelle Robertson, highlighting her exceptional contributions to the Fallin community. Michelle, a recipient of the Trustee of the Year Award at the SCVO Awards, was praised for her unwavering commitment to improving the village. Sid Pask, honoured by MSP Keith Brown for his coaching endeavours, expressed gratitude and shared his enthusiasm for the celebratory occasion.
Moreover, Val Brand, championed by Mark Ruskell MSP for her advocacy in enhancing bus services, emphasised that the recognition belonged to all passengers in Stirling who joined her in advocating for improved public transport. Mark Ruskell commended Val Brand for her dedication and determination in advocating for better public transportation services.
The event not only celebrated the achievements of these local heroes but also served as a reminder of the importance of community involvement and empowerment in shaping a better Scotland. The gathering of individuals from diverse backgrounds and contributions underscored the collective efforts that drive positive change and progress in local communities.
