Escape to the countryside this autumn for a fun-filled family experience, regardless of the weather, at the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride. Thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Autumn Explorers will be taking place from October 15 to 18.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the season by enjoying autumnal storytelling, biodiversity activities, and exploring Lewis’s Scottish Adventure Trail at the museum, historic farmhouse, and Wester Kittochside farmyard. Families will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities such as creating their own spider from recyclable materials and delving into the soil exploration station to learn about soil and its inhabitants.
The support from People’s Postcode Lottery ensures that Autumn Explorers is free for those with museum admission and the museum’s annual pass. Vicky McLean, the general manager of the National Museum of Rural Life, expressed delight in offering a range of engaging activities for families during the half term. The aim is for young visitors to have a memorable experience learning about autumn on the farm while surrounded by the beautiful countryside.
The museum continues to host the popular Tractor Tots sessions for under-fives, providing sensory singalong experiences. Additionally, Lewis’s Scottish Adventure Trail makes a return, guiding visitors through the museum galleries to discover and appreciate Scottish traditions, offered in both English and Gaelic languages.
