Health and social care workers from across NHS Lanarkshire were recently honoured at a special awards ceremony, highlighting their dedication and compassion in making a positive impact on people’s lives. The annual staff event recognises the hard work and remarkable contributions of individuals and teams within the health board. Professor Jann Gardner, the chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire, lauded the staff and volunteers for their unwavering commitment to patient care, describing them as the heart of the organisation.
This year’s awards featured an impressive 236 nominations across various categories, showcasing the exceptional efforts of the staff. The finalists and winners were celebrated at a ceremony held at South Lanarkshire Council headquarters. The event aimed to acknowledge the outstanding service provided by healthcare professionals in Lanarkshire on a daily basis. Categories included the Care and Compassion Award, Innovation Award, Collaboration Award, Global Citizenship Award, Chair Award, Chief Executive Award, and Special Recognition Awards.
Among the recipients were Dr. Daniel McGowan for his exceptional care and compassion, the urogynaecology team for their life-changing work, and the psychiatric liaison nursing team for setting new standards in patient care. Segun Komolafe received the Global Citizenship Award for transforming lives across continents. The Flow Navigation Centre +Plus and the Briar Centre were also recognised for their transformative and innovative work in patient pathways and brain injury rehabilitation, respectively.
Additionally, the prestigious William Cullen Prize was posthumously awarded to Dr. Barry Vallance for his remarkable contributions to cardiac care. Martin Hill, chairman of NHS Lanarkshire, expressed his gratitude towards the staff for their hard work, dedication, and passion in upholding the highest standards of healthcare. The awards ceremony served as a platform to honour and celebrate the exceptional achievements of NHS Lanarkshire staff.
As the event concluded, Hill commended all the winners and finalists for their invaluable contributions.
