Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke has been named in the England squad for the upcoming matches against Greece and Finland, marking his return to international football after seven years since earning his sole cap. The striker, who recently transferred to Spurs from Bournemouth, has been in fine form, scoring in his last three matches.
The 27-year-old’s inclusion in interim manager Lee Carsley’s 25-man squad sees him replacing the likes of Eberichi Eze, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and James Maddison, who have been left out this time. Despite their hopes for a recall, Carsley opted to freshen up the squad with familiar faces like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Kyle Walker, and Ollie Watkins, who have all returned after missing the previous matches against Republic of Ireland and Greece.
While Crystal Palace’s Eze failed to make the cut due to a slow start to the season, Maguire, Rashford, and Maddison have also been omitted following mixed performances at their respective clubs. Although there are no uncapped players in the squad this time, Morgan Gibbs-White, Noni Madueke, and Angel Gomes have retained their spots after their first call-ups last month. Aston Villa’s promising forward Morgan Rogers, however, has not been selected.
