Blairgowrie care home worker bids farewell after 17 years in the role
A well-loved care home worker in Blairgowrie has said goodbye to his colleagues and residents after dedicating 17 years to his role. Bienvenido ‘Ben’ Flordeliza, a domestic assistant at BCG Stormont Lodge care home, retired to return to his native Philippines. Throughout his time at the care home, the 66-year-old never missed a shift, even during the pandemic. Looking back on his tenure, Ben expressed his fondness for both the residents and his team, saying, “I’ll really miss the residents and my team. I have a lot of love for them.”
His departure has left a void among his colleagues, with Stormont Lodge depute head manager Dawn Forbes praising Ben’s cheerful and helpful presence. She described him as always willing to assist both residents and staff, known for his infectious smile that brightened up the room. Fondly referred to as ‘Boss Man’ at the care home, Ben will be dearly missed.
To mark his retirement, Ben was honoured with a thoughtful farewell gathering attended by colleagues and family. The celebration included a special cake, gifts, flowers, vouchers, and a heartfelt thank you letter from BCG’s Managing Director and Chairman. His daughter-in-law, Melicynth Flordeliza, who also works at Stormont Lodge, praised Ben for his dedication and work ethic, adding that he is looking forward to spending quality time with loved ones in the Philippines, indulging in his passion for basketball.
As Ben and his wife, Gilda, prepare for their new chapter in the Philippines, the staff and residents of Stormont Lodge expressed their best wishes for his retirement.
