Katie Archibald will make her comeback at the Track Cycling World Championships after recovering from a freak injury that sidelined her during the Olympics. The 30-year-old suffered ligament tears and two broken bones in her leg after tripping in her garden back in June. Despite missing out on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in July, Archibald focused on her rehabilitation and is now set to return to action in Denmark this month.
Joining a 23-person squad for the championships, Archibald will be alongside 11 Olympic medallists from the summer games, including Emma Finucane, Sophie Capewell, and Katy Marchant. This trio secured a historic Olympic gold medal in the women’s team sprint, with Finucane also clinching bronze in the women’s keirin and individual sprint events.
The Great Britain squad will also feature riders like Josie Knight, Anna Morris, and Jess Roberts, who earned bronze in the team pursuit, as well as Neah Evans, who won silver in the madison event. These athletes will compete in the endurance races in Denmark alongside Archibald.
On the men’s side, team pursuit silver medallists Dan Bigham, Ethan Hayter, Charlie Tanfield, and Ollie Wood will reunite at the World Championships. Notably, this competition will mark Bigham’s final appearance riding for GB before retirement.
