Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas, a 19-year-old student named Emma Catherine Brungardt, tragically lost her life in a car accident that also resulted in injuries to five of her teammates. The incident occurred on Friday evening near Garden City in rural Kansas when the car they were travelling in veered off the road and collided with trees.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Kade Homm, 18, was behind the wheel of a Ford Pickup truck carrying Emma and her fellow teammates. The truck crashed into a row of trees and overturned, leading to the devastating outcome. Emma Brungardt was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The other passengers, including teammates Lakeddah J. Downes, Alaura Crockett-Armijo, Kerstin S. Tommer, and Emma G. Krase, all sustained minor injuries and were promptly taken to Citizens Medical Center in Colby for medical treatment.
Emma Brungardt, a sophomore studying equine management and production at Colby Community College, had recently been crowned Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas. Her Facebook page was filled with pictures of her beloved horses, showcasing her passion for equestrian activities. In her last post before the tragedy, she shared about selling one of her horses.
The Miss Rodeo Kansas Pageant shared a touching tribute in honour of Emma, describing her as a shining example of a rodeo queen who consistently went above and beyond expectations. They highlighted her infectious smile and unique personality, asking for prayers for her family and friends during this difficult time.
Colby Community College fondly remembered Emma as a compassionate individual who excelled in various rodeo events such as goat tying, breakaway, and team roping. They expressed their condolences to all the families affected by the accident and emphasised Emma’s positive impact on others within the rodeo community.
