The Fin Hope Trio were the special guests at the most recent gathering of Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club. The trio, hailing from Biggar, featured Fin Hope on accordion, Tom Gold on fiddle, and Jim Gold on piano. A near capacity crowd enthusiastically gathered at The Crichton Golf Club on Tuesday, October 1 for the club’s monthly meeting. The audience was treated to a delightful performance by the Fin Hope Trio, showcasing a wonderful blend of accordion and fiddle music, beautifully accompanied by Jim on piano. Their varied selection of tunes was met with great applause from the large crowd in attendance.
Local musicians also had the opportunity to share their talents under the guidance of compere John Caskie. Performers included John Cowan from Kirkcudbright on fiddle, William Little from Dumfries and Madeline Maxwell from Gretna on tin whistles, as well as accordionists John Douglas from Dumfries, Stuart Faulds from Ayrshire, Bob Watson from Torthorwald, John Waugh from Carlisle, Barbara Fisher from Dumfries, Fred Prise from Lochmaben, Gavin Foster from Dumfries, and Brian Maxwell from Gretna. Drummers Billy Porter from Gretna and Rob Dorrance from Kirkpatrick Fleming, along with William McRobert from Moffat on piano, also joined in the musical festivities.
The evening included a lively raffle and refreshments served by the golf club staff, adding to the overall success and enjoyment of the event. The next meeting is scheduled for November 5, where five-row button key accordionist Johnny Duncan will be the guest performer. The club extends a warm welcome to all, with an admission fee of £5, and local supporting players gaining free entry to the event.
