A tragic incident unfolded at a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant in Nānākuli, Hawaii, resulting in the fatal stabbing of a young man who simply asked a customer to stop rearranging tables. The victim, 22-year-old Kashka Otto, was attacked by a customer named Reynaldo Cheney during a heated argument on a Sunday morning.
Cheney, 60, who already had an outstanding warrant for illegal camping, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree murder, and second-degree attempted murder following the altercation at the Wendy’s outlet. The argument escalated after Cheney used a derogatory name towards Otto, who responded with a punch, prompting Cheney to stab him in retaliation.
Otto, described as a friendly and smiling employee by his colleague Sophie Tabag, had been trying to escort Cheney out of the restaurant after catching him moving furniture. Another Wendy’s worker, aged 44, was also injured during the incident but has since been treated and released. Both men were taken to the hospital, but tragically, Otto did not survive.
Witnesses revealed that Cheney had been living in a tent near a beach for several years. The Honolulu Police Department confirmed that they are treating the case as a homicide, with charges pending against the suspect. Cheney’s bail was set at $1 million following the violent altercation.
