Coldplay’s Hong Kong fans upset as tickets for tour sell out in under an hour

Coldplay fans in Hong Kong were left disappointed as tickets for the band’s upcoming tour sold out within an hour, leading to frustration over inflated prices on third-party resale websites. The tickets for Coldplay’s three shows in Hong Kong in 2025 were in high demand, with fans eager to secure their spots at the Kai Tak Stadium on 9, 11, and 12 April.

The band’s Asia leg of the Music of the Spheres world tour generated excitement among fans, but many were unable to purchase tickets directly from Live Nation Hong Kong. Prices for tickets ranged from HK$399 (£39) to HK$6,599 (£649) for the exclusive “Ultimate Spheres Experience.” The most premium packages were the first to sell out within just 10 minutes, leaving fans with limited options for single seats across various price categories.

Reports indicated that a significant number of tickets were bought by overseas fans, raising concerns among local attendees who struggled to secure tickets at face value. An exclusive package deal on travel platform Klook, which included tickets and hotel stays, also sold out within minutes, further limiting the options for Hong Kong fans.

Similar incidents were reported in India, where ticketing websites crashed under the weight of high traffic, leading to exorbitant prices on resale platforms. In Hong Kong, resellers offered tickets at significantly inflated prices, prompting platforms like Carousell to monitor and remove listings above face value to prevent price gouging.

In a bid to provide a unique experience for international fans, the Hong Kong Tourism Board highlighted the opportunity for visitors to enjoy the concert while exploring the city. Coldplay’s tour spans other cities like Abu Dhabi and Seoul, marking their return to Hong Kong after more than a decade.

Despite the challenges faced by fans in acquiring tickets, the anticipation and excitement for Coldplay’s performances remain high among music enthusiasts in Hong Kong and beyond.
