Final “Masterplan” Agreed for Forthside Development Including Studios, Homes, and Business Units
The Forthside development near Stirling city centre has reached a significant milestone as the final masterplan has been approved by councillors. The area, which has been a subject of debate between the local authority and the Ministry of Defence, will see a transformation with the introduction of a state-of-the-art filming studio, commercial opportunities, homes, and improved infrastructure.
The Forthside Barracks site is set to become a new filming studio complex described as one of the largest in Scotland. The project will also feature 300 new homes, business units, and enhanced travel routes for the community to enjoy. Feedback from a consultation involving over 800 responses has been incorporated into the design guide, which outlines the vision for the Forthside development.
Stirling Studios, to be housed within the former MoD facility, is expected to create over 400 jobs in film and production roles, as well as in other related services, over the next 25 years. Stirling Council leader, Cllr Margaret Brisley, expressed enthusiasm for the redevelopment, emphasizing the economic, social, and environmental benefits it will bring to Stirling and the surrounding area.
The masterplan aims to create a vibrant and sustainable part of the city, welcoming new businesses, commercial partners, and residents. It will also provide greater access to the River Forth for recreational purposes, with high-quality public spaces and improved travel routes, including options for active travel. The vision is to establish a dynamic community that reflects the aspirations of Stirling Council, residents, businesses, and investors.
