Greek Police Clear George Baldock’s Death of Criminal Activity
Greek police have confirmed that there is no evidence of criminal activity contributing to the death of former Sheffield United defender, George Baldock. The 31-year-old, who recently signed for Athens club Panathinaikos, passed away as confirmed by a family statement released on Wednesday.
In a statement from Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, it was declared that a preliminary investigation led by the Attica Security Directorate found no signs of criminal involvement in Baldock’s passing. A forensic pathologist examined the body on the scene without detecting any foul play.
Furthermore, a house search was conducted by the police to rule out any indications of a burglary, which yielded negative results. A specialised team from the Criminal Investigation Directorate also examined the residence to eliminate the possibility of criminal activity.
In response to the tragic news, The Football Association announced a moment of silence before the Nations League match between England and Greece at Wembley. Both teams will wear black armbands in honour of Baldock. Additionally, tributes will be paid to the late Lord Herman Ouseley, the founder of Kick It Out, who passed away at the age of 79 last week.
