The creator of the series “Kaos” has responded to Netflix’s unexpected decision to cancel the show after just one season. Charlie Covell expressed being “gutted” by the streaming platform’s choice to axe the dark comedy, which features Jeff Goldblum as Zeus and gives a contemporary twist to Greek mythology.
Covell, who uses they/them pronouns, conveyed their disappointment in a heartfelt Instagram message shared by the production company Sister. They thanked the exceptionally talented cast and crew for their dedicated work on the show, emphasising how proud they are of the series despite its premature end.
Expressing gratitude to the fans for their love and enthusiasm, Covell acknowledged the fans’ attention to detail and theories, stating that some interpretations of “Kaos” were spot on. They encouraged viewers to continue spreading the word about the show in the hope that more people would discover and enjoy it over time.
“Kaos,” an eight-episode dramedy that delves into the connections between a trio of humans and their ties to prophecy while encountering Greek and Roman mythological gods, was released on Netflix in August. Apart from Jeff Goldblum, the series features Misia Butler, Aurora Perrineau, Janet McTeer, Killian Scott, Billie Piper, and David Thewlis.
Compared to other reinterpretations of Greek tales like Hadestown, reviewer Louis Chilton from The Independent found “Kaos” to be somewhat disjointed in its handling of traditions. While acknowledging the compelling aspects of the show, Chilton noted that it occasionally struggled with its ambitious premise, stating, “It might not all be Greek to me – but some of it definitely was.”
“Kaos” is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
