‘Cheap’ two-city break in Europe boasts ‘magical’ Christmas markets and culture

A travel guru has recently shared her fantastic experience of exploring Europe’s top Christmas markets on a budget. Known as Emma on TikTok, @groundedinlondon, she outlined a magical two-city break to the enchanting Christmas markets of Budapest and Prague. The trip offers a delightful blend of festive cheer and cultural exploration, making it an ideal holiday option for those looking to experience a touch of magic abroad during the holiday season.

Emma detailed her meticulously planned journey, showcasing how travellers can enjoy a budget-friendly trip to Budapest and Prague without breaking the bank. The entire adventure, including flights, coach travel, and accommodation, came to a total of just £220. This affordable price tag allows travellers to soak up the rich cultural heritage of these captivating cities without straining their wallets.

Starting with a flight from Gatwick to Budapest costing £28 with Wizz Air, Emma then spent two nights in a hotel in Hungary’s capital for £115. By splitting the cost with a companion, each person’s share for two nights in the hotel amounted to a reasonable £57.50. Emma recommended choosing early flights to make the most of exploring Budapest in the afternoon and evening. Budapest’s Christmas markets are open from November 17 to January 1, offering a festive experience filled with delightful sights and activities.

After immersing herself in the charm of Budapest, Emma took a Flix Bus to Prague for £48.99. While the seven-hour coach ride may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it provides a budget-friendly option for travellers embarking on a two-city break. Emma also highlighted that planes and trains are alternative travel choices, albeit at potentially higher costs. In Prague, she suggested exploring the Old Town markets, with her return flight back to Stansted priced at just £38.

Regarding safety concerns raised by a TikTok user about travelling in the cities after dark, Emma emphasised that her experience, accompanied by friends, felt safe. However, she acknowledged that safety considerations can vary depending on individual circumstances and factors.

Emma’s insightful tips and budget-friendly itinerary offer fellow globetrotters the opportunity to indulge in the festive magic of Europe’s best Christmas markets while keeping costs in check. By following her lead, travellers can create their own unforgettable Christmas market adventure without breaking the bank.
