Disney World fans call out ‘obscene’ bakery prices with Boardwalk cakes starting at $22

Disney World fans are expressing outrage over the high prices at a new bakery that has recently opened at Disney’s Boardwalk in Florida. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, located within Disney World in Orlando, has received criticism for its exorbitant prices, with a slice of cake costing up to $26 (£19), significantly higher than its other outlets outside the theme park.

Despite the completion of construction, an official opening date for the Cake Bake Shop has not yet been announced. The bakery’s menu features a variety of three-layered cakes, pastries, and ice creams, with offerings such as Oprah’s ‘O’ List mint chocolate chip cake priced at $24 (£18), a pumpkin-spiced cinnamon roll cake for $22 (£16), and Gwendolyn’s famous Earl’s Court chocolate cake at $26 (£19).

Following the release of the bakery’s menu on the YouTube channel Fantasy Land News, some Disney enthusiasts have voiced their discontent with the steep prices. Comments on social media platforms like Reddit highlighted the shock over a hot chocolate priced at $11 and a cup of Earl Grey tea at $8. The pricing has been described as “utterly outrageous” and “shockingly offensive, even for Disney World.”

The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant by Gwendolyn Rogers will offer a table-service dining experience with a range of food and beverage options, including cocktails, afternoon tea, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and desserts. Situated overlooking Crescent Lake, the new establishment has replaced the ESPN Club on the Boardwalk, which closed in 2022.

While The Cake Bake Shop has other branches in Indiana with slightly lower prices, some patrons have raised concerns about the significant price discrepancy at the Disney World location. Notable for its celebrity endorsements, the bakery’s cakes have been enjoyed by the likes of singer Luke Combs and Oprah Winfrey, who has featured the cakes on her ‘O’ List in O, The Oprah Magazine.
