OAPs in West Lothian are celebrating the joys of ageing as they participated in a special event organised by OPAL and Xcite Ageing Well. The event, which took place at the Strathbrock Partnership Centre, marked the culmination of the 2024 Games. This collaboration between OPAL and Xcite has been ongoing for three years, showcasing their commitment to promoting healthy ageing among the elderly community.
Throughout Healthy Ageing Month in September, 28 teams from various community groups in West Lothian engaged in a range of games. From skittles to indoor kurling, a bean bag game, and a new football shoot-out, the participants enjoyed friendly competition, laughter, and camaraderie. The event received funding from Lynn Smith of Smile – Adventure with Dementia, the Des Ryan Fund, as well as support from The Larder and enthusiastic Sky volunteers.
The celebration saw attendees starting with seated exercises, followed by an awards ceremony and entertainment by singer John Davidson, who kept the dance floor lively. A spokesperson expressed their goal of encouraging seniors to stay active and move more each year, looking forward to the next edition of the event with excitement.
