In a recent announcement, it was revealed that forty groups across North Lanarkshire have been awarded grants totaling nearly £1.3 million from the National Lottery Community Fund. These grants are aimed at supporting projects that enhance the local environment for future generations, a key mission of the Fund. One of the recipients, St Patrick’s Furniture Project Ltd in Shotts, received £19,500 to purchase a new van, which will be used to collect and deliver recycled and refurbished furniture. This initiative not only helps combat the climate crisis but also assists in reducing the rising cost of living by providing low-cost access to furniture for families and diverting items from ending up in landfills.
Local residents Stuart and Michelle Noon from Carluke expressed their delight in visiting St Patrick’s Furniture Project and shared their positive experiences of finding affordable goods for themselves and their grandchildren. Gerry Murphy, the project administrator, expressed gratitude for the funding, highlighting that without it, replacing their previous van would have been challenging. The grant will significantly aid in the continuation of their essential services.
The announcement of the £1.3 million package of grants was made by Kate Still, the Scotland chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, who acknowledged the significant impact that communities have made over the past 30 years through National Lottery funding. National Lottery players were commended for their contributions, as their support has enabled projects like St Patrick’s Furniture Project to thrive and make a difference in the community.
National Lottery players play a vital role in raising over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. Last year alone, The National Lottery Community Fund awarded over half a billion pounds to support more than 13,700 projects across the country, helping turn innovative ideas into reality. The funding from the National Lottery continues to empower communities and drive positive change.
The significant impact of these grants on the local community in North Lanarkshire showcases the importance of initiatives supported by the National Lottery Community Fund. The successful projects not only benefit the environment and address social issues but also strengthen community bonds and create lasting positive change.
