Former First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, is set to be laid to rest in a private family funeral on October 29th in Strichen, Aberdeenshire. The funeral will be a private affair for family members and friends, in the village where Salmond resided with his wife, Moira. Salmond passed away suddenly in North Macedonia earlier this month after suffering a heart attack following an event he attended.
The news of his death shocked Scotland, and his body was flown back to Aberdeen with the help of billionaire Sir Tom Hunter who chartered a plane for the purpose. Following the private burial, a more public celebration of Salmond’s life will be held at a later date. It has been reported that Nicola Sturgeon, Salmond’s successor and the current First Minister of Scotland, will be excluded from both events. Their relationship soured over the Scottish Government’s handling of claims of sexual harassment against Salmond, which was later deemed unlawful by a judge.
