An Ohio man has been arrested on charges of bringing a massive ‘Trump’ sign to the U.S. Capitol and using it as a weapon during the riot on January 6, 2021. Jeffrey Newcomb, 41, from Polk, Ohio, was taken into custody after it was revealed that he had joined other rioters in using the custom-made sign against police officers during the chaos.
According to an FBI affidavit, Newcomb posted on social media about bringing the 8-foot-tall and 10-foot-wide sign to the Capitol, stating he did so because “bullets are expensive.” Photos later surfaced on Twitter showing the sign in the midst of the crowd of Donald Trump supporters outside the Capitol, with Newcomb allegedly concealing his identity in the post.
The account associated with Newcomb has since been deleted, but evidence suggests that he was part of a group of rioters who used the large Trump sign to push through police lines and assault officers outside the Capitol. Videos show Newcomb moving the sign near the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally, with other rioters assisting him in approaching the police line.
