A neo-Nazi is set to be sentenced for terror offences following the discovery of an “armoury” of weapons in his home. Alan Edward, a former journalist, was found guilty of planning acts of terrorism involving serious violence. The 54-year-old discussed an attack on a Scottish LBGT group, and in September 2022, armed police found a stash of weapons at his residence in Redding, Falkirk.
Among the weapons and equipment seized were a samurai sword, 14 knives with Nazi and SS insignia, machetes, a tomahawk, knuckledusters, a catapult, an extendable baton, a stun gun, an air pistol resembling James Bond’s Walther PPK, an SS-style skull mask, goggles, respirator fighting gloves, pellets, ball bearings, and hunting tips for crossbow arrows. Prosecutors described his collection as “an armoury”.
The High Court in Stirling heard that Edward subscribed to neo-Nazi beliefs, including white supremacy, racial purity, racism, anti-Semitism, and hatred towards homosexuals and transgender individuals. He was convicted of racism, anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial, and breach of the peace. Prosecutor Paul Kearney KC labelled him as a man preparing for a terrorism act driven by extremist ideologies.
Edward’s sentencing is scheduled for today, where the court will determine the consequences of his alarming possession of weapons and his intent to carry out acts of violence in the name of hate and extremism.
