Ayr Teen Successfully Balances Pharmacy Studies with Professional Basketball Career
A talented 18-year-old student from Ayrshire is impressively managing her pharmacy studies alongside a professional basketball career with the Caledonia Gladiators’ women’s squad. Alix McIntosh, a pharmacy student at the University of Strathclyde, is part of the new scholarship programme by the Scottish franchise that supports players in pursuing both their education and basketball dreams.
Alix, who started her studies at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow while playing basketball for the East Kilbride based team, appreciates the flexibility provided by her basketball team and university as she navigates her demanding schedule. She credits the Caledonia Gladiators’ management for their support in accommodating her academic priorities alongside her basketball commitments.
Having begun her basketball journey at the age of six with the Ayr Storm club, Alix quickly excelled in the sport and was even selected to play for the GB national team. Standing at 5ft 10, she primarily plays as a shooting guard but her versatility on the court is enhanced by her height.
Alix’s dedication to both her studies and basketball is evident as she aims to follow in her father’s footsteps to become a pharmacist. Despite her busy schedule, she remains focused on excelling in her studies and pursuing a career in pharmacy after completing university.
Training alongside notable Scottish players like Hannah Robb, Robyn Lewis, and Erin McGarrachan, Alix is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Caledonia Gladiators’ high-performance programme. With the club’s recent development of the state-of-the-art Playsport Arena, the team now has a dedicated training venue that has helped increase their fanbase.
